Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08731700708879156619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22864367.post-20861785285621805152018-08-18T09:25:00.001-07:002018-08-18T09:25:49.664-07:00Selfless Sewing - a Minx glow in the dark bedtime t-shirtI've been wanting to sew something for my daughter Rosie for a long time, but since she became hyper-fashionable and not interested in flowery dresses I've struggled to know what to make for her. Then I saw the Minx glow in the dark jersey on the <a href="https://likesewamazing.com/" target="_blank">Like Sew Amazing</a> store (currently out of stock sorry), Rosie loves cats and had a birthday coming up so I decided to order some.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHUw3ftT3RfHfQjCIABIeYY81qKZVYVL0zfq2zGUXinPkEwE9-5ThELWk5Buer0_chyphenhyphenRvacBrz6aPg6gC0r5dC7JAITM9_aStkbXGEf_qEEmwmoqQpp1HEj-elDfoDsllbm_2g/s1600/minx1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="648" data-original-width="882" height="235" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHUw3ftT3RfHfQjCIABIeYY81qKZVYVL0zfq2zGUXinPkEwE9-5ThELWk5Buer0_chyphenhyphenRvacBrz6aPg6gC0r5dC7JAITM9_aStkbXGEf_qEEmwmoqQpp1HEj-elDfoDsllbm_2g/s320/minx1.png" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
The jersey feels lovely and is easy to work with. I gave her the fabric wrapped in the lovely tissue-paper it had arrived in and told her that my idea was to make a bedtime t-shirt, she loved it and agreed that would be a good project for it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvwUNhwUj2n-uPzbTh5xQSTqtf15KKgxbH1Onu43zFIeSKkkV0rCkMasRpWVFrQFOkZcwnO-kWyIzjotOssrt7e6PJryN3SQwqrU_fjQIV2tattDkPfxNBt1acpzXZEu4q_KeO/s1600/IMG_1338.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvwUNhwUj2n-uPzbTh5xQSTqtf15KKgxbH1Onu43zFIeSKkkV0rCkMasRpWVFrQFOkZcwnO-kWyIzjotOssrt7e6PJryN3SQwqrU_fjQIV2tattDkPfxNBt1acpzXZEu4q_KeO/s320/IMG_1338.JPG" width="240" /></a><br />
<br />
I didn't have a children's t-shirt pattern and considered attempting to trace one of her rtw ones. However, I was worried about getting the armscye and sleeve head right so in the end I decided to hack the free <a href="https://www.heyjunehandmade.com/the-woodstock-swing-tee/" target="_blank">Woodstock swing tee pattern from Hey June Handmade</a>. I cut out the size that matched her measurements, then used her rtw t-sirt to straighten the sides and make it less swingy. I think it turned out really well and Rosie seems very pleased with it. :-)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The cat eyes really do glow in the dark! I couldn't work out how to take a photo but the effect is pretty impressive and certainly a winner for my make. I was worried that the glow in the dark paint would fade with washing but so far it hasn't at all (and it has had quite a few washes already!).<br />
<br />
The t-shirt gets a big thumbs up from Rosie, so maybe there will be more selfless sewing to come,<br />
<br />
Ciao,<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
I chose to print the pdf at home, and whilst it was 42 pages it has the benefit of being layered so you can just print the size you want.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoeumKC_Vc64sfRAF5yscgJn7QfttyEZpusoMTB2pXkUO7lYVXku9q2cnQWw5EzdWH29ytjYJdcI-oFaFEfxNvtK-ESad1nOY2w3b5hm35oUSFgUHbZg5lHtLJK5iReQtmt-2G/s1600/IMG_1159.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoeumKC_Vc64sfRAF5yscgJn7QfttyEZpusoMTB2pXkUO7lYVXku9q2cnQWw5EzdWH29ytjYJdcI-oFaFEfxNvtK-ESad1nOY2w3b5hm35oUSFgUHbZg5lHtLJK5iReQtmt-2G/s320/IMG_1159.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I chose to go for view A - the full length version - as I prefer this length on me. I made a few adjustments to allow for my lack of height. I took a bit off of the length and I also shortened the sleeve a little to keep the proportions balanced.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRb-5TNphYMtQpcJsaviQC7qR97CdtE3Cfd5cJtO_6xYVBNQzBscQ_SwD86-hEEwmMxyrNoTSkf_CgH6mbHLI_NUi7gk6zYFp2vqHzlbK6OxaPv-kGgjctAuqKZVy8HxJLC23e/s1600/IMG_1117.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRb-5TNphYMtQpcJsaviQC7qR97CdtE3Cfd5cJtO_6xYVBNQzBscQ_SwD86-hEEwmMxyrNoTSkf_CgH6mbHLI_NUi7gk6zYFp2vqHzlbK6OxaPv-kGgjctAuqKZVy8HxJLC23e/s320/IMG_1117.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I found Helen's instructions and diagrams really clear and easy to follow, and she includes lots of useful beginner tips. I like that at certain stages there were options as to how to finish the seams, you either leave them exposed (which is what I did) or if you want a more professional finish you can follow the instructions to end up with hidden seams (I might try this on my next one!).<br />
<br />
I used a lovely floral viscose from <a href="https://www.minervacrafts.com/" target="_blank">Minerva crafts</a> for my Suki. It was the perfect fabric, just the right balance of weight and drape. I love my Suki and have worn it every morning since finishing it!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4wSGH3aD8qMWHqvZppxk6zEYQzHHQ6F4tGxiE7n59MzL8F1mv9hQZKpfiom_QtGJxoNwvSJobbhPTsbu4tXQZiuUm-KdtQRBOkmvccmcb-Yb4lhndFOZETWckADq43EPim-5G/s1600/5+vloggers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="800" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4wSGH3aD8qMWHqvZppxk6zEYQzHHQ6F4tGxiE7n59MzL8F1mv9hQZKpfiom_QtGJxoNwvSJobbhPTsbu4tXQZiuUm-KdtQRBOkmvccmcb-Yb4lhndFOZETWckADq43EPim-5G/s320/5+vloggers.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The first vlogger I stumbled across was the lovely Rosabella and her channel '<a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9Jzh8N_te915b8-F26f3DA/videos" target="_blank">Sewn</a>'.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWuN6MvbybTnOrPGWiQPmWBsaLnSPIfg43kuG8zXcmvMdyjLHZHq-EOOSIz-x5cVfcAI8GkA28l-7STMLn63qEuE3l2pWLZ_wzql9sBx-ap7YkHMb0H-EHmSHxAOPx7Oz-zDe7/s1600/IMG_0687.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="410" data-original-width="378" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWuN6MvbybTnOrPGWiQPmWBsaLnSPIfg43kuG8zXcmvMdyjLHZHq-EOOSIz-x5cVfcAI8GkA28l-7STMLn63qEuE3l2pWLZ_wzql9sBx-ap7YkHMb0H-EHmSHxAOPx7Oz-zDe7/s200/IMG_0687.jpg" width="184" /></a>Rosa is just so lovely to watch and listen to, and she makes lots of things that a beginner can tackle. Her videos are a mix of show-and-tell, tutorials and hacks. I really like the hacks, her recent Erin <br />
skirt/pinafore hack was amazing.<br />
<br />
Rosa is also one half of the team behind the very successful <a href="http://www.suzymagazine.com/" target="_blank">Suzy Magazine</a> - if you haven't seen it yet then you should definitely take a look :-)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfnFhZUP3vLdqF_4eBSGhJFCCbQxcgtZMD23i08s1Yx2ynptKEujRZy5Y4Bi62PEY-Mai3MGMsya7jD_LWDaQKOSHBK3XeYynYsEt498zcI3WYn1sMWUhrAcH1XLWjdr1rfPej/s1600/IMG_0683.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="328" data-original-width="318" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfnFhZUP3vLdqF_4eBSGhJFCCbQxcgtZMD23i08s1Yx2ynptKEujRZy5Y4Bi62PEY-Mai3MGMsya7jD_LWDaQKOSHBK3XeYynYsEt498zcI3WYn1sMWUhrAcH1XLWjdr1rfPej/s320/IMG_0683.jpg" width="308" /></a>Next I discovered the '<a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjQSPfngPOC2deD5Djajj2g/videos" target="_blank">I Sew a Lot'</a> channel and the fabulous Amanda. Amanda is just so inspirational, her channel is very aptly named - she does sew <b>a lot!</b><br />
<br />
I find the fact that she manages to find the time to work, be a mum to 2 children and make as much as she does really motivates me. It stops me from telling myself that I just don't have time, it makes me think that yes, I <u>can</u> find 20 mins here, half an hour there, and I <u>can</u> make something.<br />
<br />
<br />
The videos tend to toggle between plans and makes but Amanda is also the queen of the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sKdRrruHc0&t=2s" target="_blank">1 hour challenge</a>. I made the Named Paola top after watching her video - and I really loved how she changed the sleeve to add cuffs, it made the finish much easier and I prefer how it looks.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEic6ehCfV9C1Q-BPRiiJ9RFbThYTSB-REYtYrLdxtO2Uk2MV04iqG6bNv_BC9FDJucx50DoD9y2B3NK-3Pkty8M2pvoOy4liEdEqg0WD7y_-NXZw2mEVo0F0wlxE8uoZjVV3Dhz/s1600/IMG_0684.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="645" data-original-width="640" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEic6ehCfV9C1Q-BPRiiJ9RFbThYTSB-REYtYrLdxtO2Uk2MV04iqG6bNv_BC9FDJucx50DoD9y2B3NK-3Pkty8M2pvoOy4liEdEqg0WD7y_-NXZw2mEVo0F0wlxE8uoZjVV3Dhz/s200/IMG_0684.jpg" width="198" /></a>Sarah from '<a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8Yjt2UIgHDDsS4UWulT0rg/videos" target="_blank">Like Sew Amazing</a>' is a great vlogger, she has such a clam, gentle way about her that I really enjoy watching. She has some incredible makes such as the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBeIflM4JAI" target="_blank">gorgeous red dress</a> for 'The Little Red Dress' challenge, but she also makes lots things which are accessible to the beginner/intermediate sewist like me :-)<br />
I really like her tutorial videos such as the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oh4HR2BiW7E" target="_blank">bias bound hem tutorial in her Zinnia skirt sewalong</a>.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRmOO2OzOZbwzczOndByDdXdccNkjqcACWwdLzjO7TEtxo6FTpe3E9QFie-IiNh0EnGp7xvU6OwG4PfQTDNZIyh24B4VnI3JGQsUagAdT9fTec-VwF_9YaF-bL0iP9ugyCz_IV/s1600/IMG_0685.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="432" data-original-width="354" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRmOO2OzOZbwzczOndByDdXdccNkjqcACWwdLzjO7TEtxo6FTpe3E9QFie-IiNh0EnGp7xvU6OwG4PfQTDNZIyh24B4VnI3JGQsUagAdT9fTec-VwF_9YaF-bL0iP9ugyCz_IV/s200/IMG_0685.jpg" width="163" /></a><br />
Canadian Vlogger Lisa is a firm favourite. Her channel is '<a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDkntjY4mu6dygPSDor1k3w/videos" target="_blank">And Sew On</a>' and I absolutely love it. She has a good mix of topics including tutorials, plans, makes, & sewalongs. Lisa also likes putting together capsule wardrobes and I have found these really useful when considering my own wardrobe. Another thing Lisa likes to do is share other sewing channels she has found, it's great to see all those other people out there.<br />
<br />
Lisa has the most amazing smile, plus - I don't know what it is about the Canadian accent but I just love listening to it!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZNw09BAylRxsWMtAR1i0GWXmroNgG8XJYIyjuF_hoS2_cUdtlXooz6LteCrnsC3r-uwBFww5gr3hytwPKz6MR_pGrA28JiHonHU6njqzShYzKUPovrTsC8snVmk_VifKi5P1x/s1600/IMG_0686.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="497" data-original-width="606" height="260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZNw09BAylRxsWMtAR1i0GWXmroNgG8XJYIyjuF_hoS2_cUdtlXooz6LteCrnsC3r-uwBFww5gr3hytwPKz6MR_pGrA28JiHonHU6njqzShYzKUPovrTsC8snVmk_VifKi5P1x/s320/IMG_0686.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
Lastly, if you haven't come across '<a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgJc1-2o3Yij34HfY7P3B5Q/videos" target="_blank">The Fold Line</a>' - where have you been? The Kate & Rachels YouTube channel has an amazing range of videos including new pattern reviews, book reviews, and <br />
current fashion trend round ups. As well as this channel they have a <a href="https://thefoldline.com/" target="_blank">website</a> which hosts a huge sewing community and tons more info on everything you could ever want to know about sewing. It has a sewing community forum, pattern database, pattern reviews and lots more.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
So who are your favourite vloggers? I love discovering more so please let me know,<br />

Then the other day I was watching <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH1yGNwX4Tc" target="_blank">Lisa from 'And Sew On</a>' and she mentioned the free <a href="https://www.tessuti-shop.com/products/mandy-boat-tee-print-at-home-or-copy-shop" target="_blank">Mandy Boat Tee from Tessuti patterns</a>. It got me thinking that this would be great for my striped fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8VCwk-G0U0S2DSf_HLzhgvq2il3NRtT5u88hGx8tZ_6ddGtE6O42HxxeqBr8zKB5eM20qiBTyNJkfoX2E-leU-X1L1JqDkYejkHpbzaxzXlMSy8FlZ3Dqo9JxzOatatydVDxH/s1600/IMG_0674.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8VCwk-G0U0S2DSf_HLzhgvq2il3NRtT5u88hGx8tZ_6ddGtE6O42HxxeqBr8zKB5eM20qiBTyNJkfoX2E-leU-X1L1JqDkYejkHpbzaxzXlMSy8FlZ3Dqo9JxzOatatydVDxH/s320/IMG_0674.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It is a one-size-fits-all pattern and I was a bit worried that it might swamp my 5' 2" frame. After a lot of instagram stalking and comparing measurements with some of my rtw I decided to take 2" out of the width of the top. The front and back pieces are both cut on the fold so I just folded 1" out of each piece, I left the neck as it was and reduced the width across the shoulder.<br />
<br />
The instructions were very clear and the pattern was really quick and easy to put together. I ended up taking 2" off the hem and 2.5" off the sleeves.<br />
<br />
It is such a comfortable top to wear and the fabric has the perfect amount of drape, I know I will get lots of wear out of this one.<br />

<br />
Schnittchen are a German independent pattern company and this pattern is only available as a pdf - but I tend to prefer pdf's so that was fine.<br />
<br />
I made this coat at an evening class I attend so it was great to get some help from my teacher about how to shorten it for my 5' 1" frame. I ended up taking 15cm off the legth and 8cm off the sleeves.<br />
<br />
I purchased the fabric from my evening class, I'm not really sure what it is, some kind of wool blend. It would be a bit itchy against the skin but I have lined it. The fabric was a bit difficult to work with, it kept trying to fray and it would have been easier if I'd had more seam allowance.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmkqdRubM-YuFHz-EWACycbkRQcIeJmFqVuxnkZleiGp1DxHZze_jfM6ndetq36VEZoXnIComCYMrqAq7uAd6euI8ZBLeWS0b6-0a0bR50bqPoG6BiYqZ25LO8DEgHnI5k-POE/s1600/IMG_0295.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmkqdRubM-YuFHz-EWACycbkRQcIeJmFqVuxnkZleiGp1DxHZze_jfM6ndetq36VEZoXnIComCYMrqAq7uAd6euI8ZBLeWS0b6-0a0bR50bqPoG6BiYqZ25LO8DEgHnI5k-POE/s320/IMG_0295.JPG" width="240" /></a>The pattern itself came with fairly minimal instructions but there is a photo tutorial which goes with the pattern <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/schnittchencom/sets/72157673484436792" target="_blank">here</a>. I found this very useful, I've never made a coat before and I'm not sure the instructions would have made sense on their own. When it came to adding the lining I really struggled to understand what I should be doing, I ended up using the <a href="https://grainlinestudio.com/2012/01/09/sewing-tutorial-how-to-bag-a-jacket-lining/" target="_blank">Grainline tutorial</a> on how to bag a jacket lining - this was a life saver!<br />
<br />
I am really pleased with this coat. I made it to have something to wear with jeans but I wear with with everything! It really is my 'go-to' coat at the moment. It just seems to go with everything in my wardrobe. I wear it to work, to go out with friends, to go shopping.... And I love the big pockets, I can fit my phone, keys and wallet in them comfortably so don't always need to take my handbag.<br />
<br />
Overall, I think this is a great pattern but not for a beginner. I'd say it is advanced beginner/intermediate.<br />

I was very nervous and did mammoth amounts of reading articles on websites before taking the plunge.<br />
<br />
I chose this pattern after seeing <a href="http://www.thepetitepassions.com/2016/04/wren-dress-by-colette-patterns.html" target="_blank">Laura's Petite Passions review</a>. I thought she looked so lovely in it! I read a lot of other reviews of the pattern and everyone seemed to say it was a straightforward sew. Some people commented that the waistline came up a bit high on them, but as I am pretty short anyway I figured it would be fine for me. Also, Laura mentioned that she didn't make any adjustments either and I figured we're probably similar height.<br />
<br />
It then took me a long time to choose the fabric. I eventually decided on this lovely viscose jersey from <a href="https://www.thesplendidstitch.co.uk/" target="_blank">Splendid Stitch</a>. I initially sent an enquiry, explaining that I was planning to make the Wren and checking whether they thought this would be a suitable fabric. The staff there were very helpful and confirmed that the fabric had the required amount of stretch. The fabric is truly gorgeous, so soft and comfortable to wear and the design is so eye-catching without being over-the-top.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9YHifn1y3fxrVbSmEyf4kz4zD0BNClqAjPJIl6M9xtNr8X3e7h5cYUKGNccvhU4OWiX6xZixn5hkbC4_7QS-Jg6GyErZOwrMGBIgyCLloNttCfCyDlulSfIAxmrlzYasrpNVG/s1600/IMG_1575.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9YHifn1y3fxrVbSmEyf4kz4zD0BNClqAjPJIl6M9xtNr8X3e7h5cYUKGNccvhU4OWiX6xZixn5hkbC4_7QS-Jg6GyErZOwrMGBIgyCLloNttCfCyDlulSfIAxmrlzYasrpNVG/s320/IMG_1575.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I found the pattern instructions easy to follow but I did run into difficulties with the waistline though. I struggled to get a straight waistline. Sewing the elastic onto the waist was tricky and it turned out a bit wobbly. It wasn't too bad so I thought I'd get away with it. Then, when attaching the skirt to the bodice things got even more wobbly! Unfortunately, in my naivety/inexperience/rush I did this on the overlocker so there was no turning back! So there are a few wobbles but I don't think that anyone other than me will notice them really. Lesson learnt - sew on the machine first, then overlock after checking.<br />
<br />
I absolutely love this dress. I have worn it to barbecue parties, work, shopping, everywhere. I always get lots of compliments when I wear this. To be honest, it makes me feel like I am wearing sunshine! And it is just soooo comfortable.<br />
<br />
If you haven't made it yet then I totally recommend this,<br />

<br />
so... here is the first dress I made.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX8JRrXY0k6XdS8FO9bWddh55b9fThdejmjhUtz6IhxIs3dsknVhG6wVOqNIdlvnJT5XIpv-bl111TYmGpg7uIM8pLNYxtFIQOfTOWFIB15yHZT3c6siHQwlm6OweSk3atg86o/s1600/IMG_1458.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX8JRrXY0k6XdS8FO9bWddh55b9fThdejmjhUtz6IhxIs3dsknVhG6wVOqNIdlvnJT5XIpv-bl111TYmGpg7uIM8pLNYxtFIQOfTOWFIB15yHZT3c6siHQwlm6OweSk3atg86o/s320/IMG_1458.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I made it last July and it took me ages to decide what to make. I knew I wanted to make something simple - so no zips or buttons. After a lot of reading other peoples blogs and pattern reviews I decided to give the <a href="https://shop.tillyandthebuttons.com/products/bettine" target="_blank">Bettine dress from Tilly & the Buttons</a> a go.<br />
<br />
After having chosen the pattern it then took me even longer to choose the fabric! I found it really difficult to know what would work best and I didn't want to spend too much money in case it all went horribly wrong. Eventually I found something I liked - a houndstooth rayon from <a href="http://www.exetersewing.co.uk/" target="_blank">Exeter Sewing Machine Co</a> which was only £5.99 p/m I think<br />
<br />
After taking my measurements I cut a size 4 - I really should have gone up a size but I was kidding myself that I would lose weight! And, as I am only 5' 1" I decided to be really brave and have a go at shortening the pattern. I got a bit carried away and took 2 inches off - I was lucky that it left me enough for a tiny hem without risking indecency!<br />
<br />
The instructions were really straightforward and I had no issues following them. I am so pleased with how this turned out. I love the style and I love the pockets. I wear it a lot! The only problem I can see with it is that I haven't sewn both hips quite symmetrically, one side puffs out slightly, but I think I'm the only one that notices.<br />
<br />
I would really recommend this pattern to anyone who wants to give sewing a go.<br />

<br />
Hi, I'm Linda and I'd like to share my sewing adventures with you.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTuuD_WvPiqmPlhpj3owlAfL8gBqHHEReiPtyhqJUOTX1h7sRI4ngYeaOk5P7dNhIBXbtNyMvxt8Gos9jwdlmIltNIZJwbHWEdK-r0DxXF2p1BQGxL4GesYHqYRxHzaRsrSA5v/s1600/IMG_1449.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTuuD_WvPiqmPlhpj3owlAfL8gBqHHEReiPtyhqJUOTX1h7sRI4ngYeaOk5P7dNhIBXbtNyMvxt8Gos9jwdlmIltNIZJwbHWEdK-r0DxXF2p1BQGxL4GesYHqYRxHzaRsrSA5v/s200/IMG_1449.JPG" width="200" /></a><br />
I started sewing in July 2016 after watching The Great British Sewing Bee. Since then I've discovered a whole new world of sewing bloggers and have picked up so many tips and inspiration from them. I've been really pleased with my progress so far and hope I can inspire someone too.<br />
<br />
I'll start with a bit of a retrospective look at the things I've made so far and what I've learnt along the way. Then I hope that this will be regularly updated with whatever I'm currently up to.<br />
<br />
I''m new to blogging so I'd love to hear your thoughts on any of my posts,<br />
